According
to history, these islands were formed as a result of a great flood in the
1340s. Known as Pearl Islands (the pearls on the necklace of the Queen of
Arabian Sea - Kochi), these small yet beautiful islands are a real treat
to one's eyes. Kamyakam Haven is on the southern side of the island on looking
the water highway. Even the route to Kamyakam Haven by boat
gives the visitor an unforgettable experience - with the rural life on one
side and the urban on the other. One can see the sharply outlined
silhouette of the main building from the boat itself. The Resort is also
easily accessible by road from the mainland.
The
Location: The main occupation of the local inhabitants are
agriculture and fishing. Of the total area of the islands, only 16% is
land and the rest, are paddy fields and streams. During rainy season, the
fields are used for paddy cultivation and in summer, after the harvest,
saline water is filled in and traditional prawn farming is done. The
fields used for prawn farming are called Chemmeen Kettu. Other traditional
activities of the area are coir processing, clay utensil( the renowned
handmade Moolampally Chatty belongs to this place) and brick
manufacturing, houseboat construction.
